## Verdict

**Token Security vs Astrix Security is no longer a like-for-like race: only one is for sale.** [Astrix Security](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/ai-identity/astrix-security/) built a strong [non-human identity](https://startwithidentity.com/guides/fundamentals/what-is-non-human-identity/) (NHI) discovery and posture product, but Cisco closed its acquisition on 29 June 2026 and Astrix ended standalone sales of new licenses the next day. [Token Security](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/ai-identity/token-security/) is an independent, machine-first NHI and AI agent security platform you can still buy and pilot. New buyers should evaluate Token against other independents; existing Astrix customers should plan their path into Cisco. Profile scores: Astrix 4.0, Token 3.7, reflecting Astrix's maturity rather than availability.

## Where each wins

| Decision factor | Token Security | Astrix Security |
|---|---|---|
| Can you buy it new today | Wins: yes | No, since 30 June 2026 |
| Vendor independence | Wins: private | Cisco subsidiary |
| AI agent and MCP coverage | Agent discovery, Token MCP Server | MCP server discovery documented |
| SaaS and OAuth grant discovery breadth | Growing | Wins: broad SaaS integrations |
| Reference base and maturity | Young, small base | Wins: longer track record |
| Path for Cisco shops | Separate vendor | Wins: Duo, Splunk, Identity Intelligence |

## Pricing reality (checked 2026-11-05)

Neither vendor publishes prices. [Token Security's site](https://www.token.security/) lists no pricing; per our profile it sells an enterprise subscription scoped by environments and connectors after a proof of concept. [Astrix's site](https://astrix.security/) states it "has ended standalone sales of new licenses effective June 30th, 2026", so there is no new-customer price at all; renewals run through your Astrix representative, and new capability purchases go through Cisco. Size identity counts before any call with the [TCO calculator](https://startwithidentity.com/tools/tco-calculator/).

## Ownership changes

Cisco [announced its intent to acquire Astrix](https://blogs.cisco.com/news/cisco-announces-intent-to-acquire-astrix-security) on 4 May 2026 and closed on 29 June 2026, terms undisclosed (Calcalist reported about $400 million). Cisco is folding Astrix into Duo, Splunk and Cisco Identity Intelligence. The same day, SailPoint closed its purchase of [Entro Security](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/ai-identity/entro-security/). Token Security, founded in 2023, remains private and was named a finalist in the RSAC Innovation Sandbox contest for 2026, according to its site.

## Deployment and architecture

Both are SaaS platforms that connect to your identity providers, clouds, SaaS apps and AI platforms through APIs and build an inventory of service accounts, API keys, OAuth tokens, secrets and agents. Astrix's discovery was agentless and API-based, covering AWS, Google Cloud, Azure and SaaS such as Salesforce, Slack and Okta. Token describes a unified identity graph across on-prem, hybrid and cloud, with lifecycle ownership, permission right-sizing, threat detection and automated remediation. Neither is an IdP or a secrets vault; both sit beside them as a visibility and governance layer.

## Migration notes

Existing Astrix customers are not forced off: their current agreements continue. Before renewal, export your inventory, ownership mappings and open findings, and ask Cisco in writing which Astrix features survive into Identity Intelligence and on what timeline. Moving to Token or another independent is mostly a reconnect exercise: re-authorize connectors, re-establish owners for each non-human identity, and recreate alert routing. Run both in parallel for an overlap period so remediation work does not stall.

## Who should pick which

- **Token Security:** teams starting an NHI and [agentic identity](https://startwithidentity.com/glossary/agentic-identity/) program now that want an independent vendor and are comfortable with a young product.
- **Astrix (through Cisco):** existing customers, and Cisco-standardized security teams.
- **Neither:** if you need runtime credential issuance rather than discovery, look at [Aembit](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/ai-identity/aembit/); for the best-funded independent, [Oasis Security](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/ai-identity/oasis-security/), though Cyera has signed a letter of intent to acquire it.
