## Where their work shows up

Most of the hard part of [decentralized identity](https://startwithidentity.com/guides/fundamentals/what-is-decentralized-identity/) is not cryptography, it is governance: who is allowed to issue what, who decides to trust an issuer, and how that decision is written down so a verifier in another country can act on it. His work spans both halves, the [DID specification](https://startwithidentity.com/standards/decentralized-identifiers-did/) and the trust frameworks that make it usable. See [what is self-sovereign identity](https://startwithidentity.com/guides/fundamentals/what-is-self-sovereign-identity/) and the [decentralized identity vendors](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/decentralized-identity/).
