## Overview

Privado ID, formerly Polygon ID, is a [decentralized identity](https://startwithidentity.com/guides/fundamentals/what-is-decentralized-identity/) platform that spun out of the Polygon ecosystem in 2023. It centers on [self-sovereign identity](https://startwithidentity.com/guides/fundamentals/what-is-self-sovereign-identity/) and [verifiable credentials](https://startwithidentity.com/standards/verifiable-credentials/) with heavy use of [zero-knowledge proofs](https://startwithidentity.com/glossary/zero-knowledge-proof/) for privacy.

## What it is good at

Its distinctive strength is zero-knowledge proofs. Holders can prove a claim (being over 18, holding a credential, meeting a threshold) without revealing the underlying data, which goes beyond basic [selective disclosure](https://startwithidentity.com/glossary/selective-disclosure/). Built on open [decentralized identifier](https://startwithidentity.com/standards/decentralized-identifiers-did/) and verifiable credential standards, it appeals to privacy-first and Web3-native builders, and its developer tooling and open libraries make it approachable for teams comfortable in that ecosystem.

## Where it falls short

It is early and rooted in the crypto and Web3 world, so enterprise support, mainstream non-crypto integrations, and verifier adoption are still developing. Governance, revocation, and lifecycle tooling are less mature than incumbent stacks, and commercial terms are still evolving. Assurance for regulated use cases needs careful validation.

## Pricing

Largely open and developer-oriented, with commercial terms evolving. Model total cost with the [TCO calculator](https://startwithidentity.com/tools/tco-calculator/).

## Best for, and who should look elsewhere

Choose Privado ID for zero-knowledge, self-sovereign credentials and privacy-first Web3 use cases. Look elsewhere for an enterprise-supported managed suite such as [Microsoft Entra Verified ID](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/decentralized-identity/microsoft-entra-verified-id/), or for mainstream, non-crypto ecosystem fit. Compare with [walt.id](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/decentralized-identity/walt-id/) and [Dock](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/decentralized-identity/dock/).

## Bottom line

A zero-knowledge-focused decentralized identity platform for privacy-first and Web3 builders, distinctive on ZKP but still maturing outside the crypto ecosystem.
