## Overview

Sumsub is a full-stack verification and compliance platform covering [identity verification](https://startwithidentity.com/guides/compliance/customer-identity-verification-guide/), AML screening, KYB business verification, transaction monitoring and crypto Travel Rule compliance. Two things set it apart from most of the category: it publishes an actual rate card, starting at [1.35 dollars per verification](https://sumsub.com/pricing/) with a 149 dollar monthly minimum, and it holds a recent, dated third-party biometric test result.

The operating entity is Sum and Substance Ltd, incorporated in London in July 2015; the group parent is Raritex Trade Ltd in Cyprus. Sumsub reports more than 4,000 customers and over two million verifications daily, both self-reported.

## What it is good at

Breadth in one contract. Document verification across more than 14,000 document types from 220 or more countries, liveness, NFC chip reading, proof of address, AML screening with ongoing monitoring, KYB, transaction monitoring and reusable KYC all sit in the same platform, which avoids the usual stitching together of three vendors. The Travel Rule product is genuinely deep for crypto businesses, with a VASP directory of over 1,050 counterparties.

The liveness evidence is the strongest part. An [iBeta ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2 test](https://www.ibeta.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/250325-Sumsub-PAD-Level-2-Confirmation-Letter.pdf) completed in March 2025 recorded zero successful presentation attacks across 1,500 attempts on Android and iOS. Dated, independent, and recent enough to mean something in a deepfake-era evaluation, which is more than several larger competitors can show.

Compliance coverage is thorough: SOC 2 Type II, the ISO 27001 family, PCI DSS, and certified IDSP status under the UK trust framework.

## Where it falls short

The February 2026 disclosure is the material concern. An attacker reached a support environment in July 2024 through a malicious attachment on a third-party ticketing platform and went undetected for roughly 18 months. Sumsub states production systems, biometrics and document images were unaffected and that exposure was limited to names, with emails or phone numbers for a smaller subset, but no record count was published and the detection gap is the part worth asking about.

The 14,000-document figure has been static since July 2023, and per-country pricing is not published. Funding, revenue and current headcount have never been disclosed in primary sources.

Regulated buyers in some jurisdictions will want to document the Cyprus parent and the company's 2022 exit from Russian operations; the UK register and Sumsub's own statement are the sources to work from.

## Pricing

## Best for, and who should look elsewhere

Choose Sumsub for crypto, fintech and marketplace businesses wanting verification, AML and Travel Rule from one vendor at a price you can read. Consider [Persona](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/identity-verification/persona/), [Jumio](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/identity-verification/jumio/) or [Veriff](https://startwithidentity.com/vendors/identity-verification/veriff/) as alternatives. See [Persona vs Veriff](https://startwithidentity.com/compare/persona-vs-veriff/).

## Bottom line

The most price-transparent serious IDV platform, with the freshest independent liveness evidence in the category, carrying a 2026 breach disclosure whose 18-month detection gap deserves a direct question in procurement.
