🇰🇪 Kenya
Kenya is moving from its second-generation national ID and the abandoned Huduma Namba to the Maisha digital identity ecosystem, comprising the Maisha Namba unique number, the chip-enabled Maisha Card, a digital ID, and the Maisha Integrated Database.
Maisha Namba is a 14-digit lifelong unique personal identifier issued to Kenyans from birth, and the Maisha Card is the accompanying chip-enabled third-generation national ID that replaces the older second-generation card. Launched in late 2023 as the successor to the abandoned Huduma Namba, it has an ICAO-compliant chip for use as a regional travel document.
