Swiss e-ID

Swiss state-run e-ID (swiyu)

Switzerland's state-run e-ID was approved in a national referendum on 28 September 2025. It is a voluntary and free electronic identity stored in the swiyu wallet, currently available in a public beta integration environment. General availability is expected around December 2026.

Is the Swiss e-ID available yet?
Not for general use. It was approved by referendum in September 2025 and is in a public beta, with launch expected around December 2026.
Is the Swiss e-ID mandatory?
No. Use of the e-ID is voluntary and free of charge, and it complements the physical identity card.
