Malwarebytes email access via abused Microsoft 365 application

Malwarebytes disclosed on January 19, 2021 that the actor behind the SolarWinds breach abused applications with privileged access to its Microsoft Office 365 and Azure environments. The attacker added a self-signed certificate with credentials to a service principal and used it to read a limited subset of internal email through Microsoft Graph. Microsoft alerted Malwarebytes on December 15, 2020; Malwarebytes does not use SolarWinds.
