Start with Identity is a non-profit, vendor-neutral community where people learn identity and access management. This page explains how we publish news and analysis, how to tell us when we get something wrong, and who is behind the site.
How we choose and write news
We cover identity and security news that a practitioner may have to act on: breaches where an identity was the way in, exploited vulnerabilities in identity systems, changes to standards and regulations, and moves that change who owns a product people depend on.
- Every news post is dated, links its primary source, and is short enough to read in a minute or two.
- Each one adds a Why it matters section: what the story means for the people who run identity, and what to check or change.
- Analysis on the blog carries a clear argument and the evidence for it. The weekly This Week in Identity collects the stories worth knowing.
- We do not publish rumours, unconfirmed breach claims, or leaked data.
Sourcing and accuracy
- Facts come from primary sources where they exist: the vendor's advisory or documentation, the standards body, government notices such as CISA's Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog and the NVD, and court or regulator filings. Independent reporting is cited by name when it is the source.
- Every number, date and severity rating is attributed. If we cannot source it, we leave it out.
- When something is uncertain, we say so on the page instead of rounding up.
- We quote briefly and with attribution. We link to the original rather than copying it.
Independence and conflicts
- We do not take sponsorship, advertising or payment for coverage, and no vendor can buy a placement, a score or a removal. Vendor scores follow the published methodology.
- Where a conflict of interest exists, we disclose it on the page it affects.
- We write about vendors neutrally and link to their profiles so readers can compare for themselves.
Corrections
If you spot a mistake, tell us through the contact form or at community@startwithidentity.com. Include the page and, where you can, a source. We check every report. When a correction changes a fact, we fix the page, update its date, and note what changed on the page. Sourced corrections from practitioners go to the front of the queue, and we credit the reporter if they want credit.
Ownership and funding
Start with Identity was founded in May 2026 by Deepak Gupta and is run as a non-profit community. It is not owned by, or affiliated with, any identity or security vendor. Content is free to read with no paywall, and there is no advertising or sponsorship.
Who writes it
Posts are published under the byline SWI Community Team, the community's volunteer editors. You can see who is involved on the contributors page and read more about the community on the about page.
