The Connected S
Our mark is an S for Start, drawn as the path an identity takes. Three points sit on one line, and the light that runs along it is a sign-in moving from start to access.
- Top node: where you startAn account, a credential, a first sign-in. Every journey into a system begins with proving who you are.
- Middle node: the personThe identity at the centre, human or machine. It is the only warm colour in our palette because people are the point.
- Bottom node: what you reachThe apps, data and systems that access opens up once the right identity is confirmed.
The line is identity and access management: the path that should connect a person to what they need. Security is making sure it is the only path.

Start with Identity is a non-profit, vendor-neutral community where identity and security practitioners learn and share how identity and access management works. Founded in May 2026, it publishes free, sourced guides, tool evaluations and news, with no sponsorship.

Start with Identity is a non-profit, vendor-neutral community where identity and security practitioners learn and share how identity and access management works. Founded in May 2026, it publishes free, sourced guides, tool evaluations and news, with no sponsorship.
The site covers workforce and customer identity, privileged access, identity governance, Zero Trust, MFA and passkeys, machine and non-human identity, identity verification and decentralized identity. Vendor profiles are scored against one published methodology, and the site tracks identity CVEs, attack techniques, regulations and national digital ID schemes.
Start with Identity was founded by Deepak Gupta, who sets its editorial direction and funds the project. No vendor can pay to change a score or a ranking.
Anyone can contribute: practitioners write and review guides, glossary terms and vendor profiles, and every contributor is credited by name. Learn more at startwithidentity.com/community/.
Logo usage rules
- Clear space: keep empty space around the mark or lockup at least half the height of the mark on every side.
- Minimum size: the mark at 16 px or larger (the favicon uses a simplified 16 px version); the lockup at 120 px wide or larger.
- Use the lockup made for the background: the light lockup on light backgrounds, the dark lockup on dark ones. Use the mono mark where only one colour is available.
- Do not recolour, stretch, rotate, outline or add effects to the mark or lockup, and do not rebuild the wordmark in another typeface.
- Keep the three nodes and their colours: mint at the ends, amber in the middle. The amber node is the person and is never moved or dropped.
- The animated version (a light running along the S) is for our own site only. Use the static files above everywhere else.
- Do not use the name or logo in a way that implies Start with Identity endorses, ranks favourably, or partners with any vendor or product.
