The national ID card is Egypt's compulsory primary identity document, issued to every citizen and carrying a unique permanent 14-digit National Number assigned at birth registration. It is required for government services, banking, employment, education and domestic travel, and is the legal basis on which digital ID services such as Digital Egypt are built.

Digital Egypt is the national government-services platform, available on web and mobile, that lets citizens access and track public services online with legal validity. A companion Digital Identity app lets users verify their identity electronically to authenticate into these services, building on the National Number as the identity backbone.
