🇪🇬 Egypt
Egypt's foundational identity is the mandatory national ID card with its 14-digit National Number, run by the Ministry of Interior's Civil Status Department. On top of it, the Ministry of Communications has built the Digital Egypt services platform and a companion Digital Identity app to authenticate citizens online.
The national ID card is Egypt's compulsory primary identity document, issued to every citizen and carrying a unique permanent 14-digit National Number assigned at birth registration. It is required for government services, banking, employment, education and domestic travel, and is the legal basis on which digital ID services such as Digital Egypt are built.

A companion Digital Identity app lets users verify their identity electronically to authenticate into these services, building on the National Number as the identity backbone.
