Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number issued to residents of India and is the world's largest biometric ID system. Backed by demographic and biometric data in the UIDAI repository, it is used for welfare delivery, banking KYC, and tax linkage, with the mAadhaar app and DigiLocker extending it to mobile.

DigiLocker is a government cloud platform that lets residents store and share government-verified digital documents such as driving licences, vehicle records, and academic certificates. Sign-up and document fetch are authenticated using Aadhaar, and issued documents hold the same legal validity as physical originals.
