MyKad is Malaysia's compulsory physical national identity smart card, carrying personal and biometric data on a secure embedded chip. Introduced in 2001, it has historically supported functions including driving licence, e-cash, and transit payment, with access controlled by JPN.

MyDigital ID is Malaysia's government-backed national digital identity that lets citizens verify and authenticate themselves online with a single secure credential. Public registration opened in 2024. It complements rather than replaces MyKad and does not store personal data centrally, instead referencing government databases.
