🇲🇾 Malaysia
Malaysia combines the long-running MyKad mandatory smart national ID card with MyDigital ID, a newer national digital identity app for online verification. MyDigital ID complements rather than replaces MyKad.
MyKad is Malaysia's compulsory physical national identity smart card, carrying personal and biometric data on a secure embedded chip. Introduced in 2001, it has historically supported functions including driving licence, e-cash, and transit payment, with access controlled by JPN.

Public registration opened in 2024. It complements rather than replaces MyKad and does not store personal data centrally, instead referencing government databases.
