The CNIE is Morocco's mandatory electronic national identity card in credit-card format with an embedded chip. The third generation introduced in 2020 added cryptographic capability with digital certificates on the chip, a per-citizen PIN, and the ability to perform digital signatures and online authentication. It serves as the root credential for Morocco's online digital-identity services.

Mon e-ID is a mobile app that lets holders use their electronic national ID card to prove their identity and log into online services securely without multiple passwords. It reads the CNIE via NFC and verifies the holder with facial recognition, then asserts identity to the requesting service through the National Trust Platform.
