What this conference is for
The OpenID Well-Known Conference is the first conference run by the OpenID Foundation, the standards body behind OpenID Connect, the FAPI security profiles, and the OpenID4VC family that many verifiable credential and wallet programs build on. Its stated focus is narrow and practical: how identity, open finance, open health, and credential ecosystems get from pilot to scale, and how the standards underneath them need to move to support that.
When and where
The inaugural edition runs February 2 to 4, 2027, at County Hall in London. Day 1 is the main conference track, built around leaders of large ecosystems describing what it took to reach adoption. Days 2 and 3 are working days: OpenID Foundation working groups hold meetings, interoperability events, demonstrations, and hackathons alongside the program. Tickets are on sale through the Foundation's event page. The call for proposals, published on August 18, 2026, accepted submissions on a rolling basis through October, so treat speaking slots as effectively closed.
Who should attend
Architects and program leads running national or sector ecosystems (digital identity wallets, open banking, eIDAS 2.0 deployments), engineers implementing OpenID specifications, and anyone who wants to influence the specs rather than only consume them. If you already follow the Foundation's working groups, this is the first chance to see most of them in one building.
What to expect
A smaller, expert audience than a trade show. The proposals the Foundation asked for are lessons learned, not product pitches: what enabled or blocked adoption, how interoperability helped, and what an ecosystem would do differently. Expect strong verifiable credentials and FAPI content and hands-on working group sessions.
Coverage
We cover the OpenID Well-Known Conference in full, given how much of the standards work our readers implement comes out of these working groups. As a first edition, its format may change in later years.
