Can cuoc (chip-embedded national identity card)

The chip-embedded national identity card stores citizens' core identity and biometric data on an electronic chip plus a QR code, in Vietnamese and English. It is the physical counterpart to VNeID and the source credential for issuing electronic ID accounts. Under the 2023 Law on Identification, effective July 2024, the card was renamed from Can cuoc cong dan to Can cuoc and its biometric data expanded.
