Overview
Jumio is one of the longest-established names in identity verification, covering more than 5,000 ID subtypes across 200 or more countries and reporting over a billion transactions processed. It is privately held by a private equity group led by Centana Growth Partners, which bought the company out of Chapter 11 in 2016 after accounting fraud by its former chief executive, with Great Hill Partners investing 150 million dollars in 2021.
The platform has widened beyond onboarding: selfie.DONE added reusable identity in October 2025, Jumio Watch added post-onboarding continuous monitoring in April 2026, and global digital ID acceptance landed in June 2026.
What it is good at
Coverage and longevity. The document library is among the largest available, and the June 2026 digital ID work is genuinely forward-looking: acceptance of government-issued digital credentials across 60 or more countries through one integration, including eIDAS-compliant eIDs in nearly 20 EU member states, positions Jumio ahead of most competitors as national wallets roll out. More than a million Brazilian CNH Digital verifications since early 2025 shows real volume behind the claim.
Liveness testing is current. Jumio Liveness achieved ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2 conformance through iBeta in October 2025, which is recent enough to mean something against modern injection and deepfake attacks.
Compliance covers SOC 2 Type 2 across the platform, ISO/IEC 27001 and PCI DSS, with transaction monitoring separately attested since 2020.
Where it falls short
Two absences stand out. Jumio does not appear in any NIST face evaluation, so there is no independent recognition accuracy data at all, and its Level 2 press release publishes no error rates to compare. And it is not on the UK statutory verification register, contrary to several secondary sources, which rules it out for UK Right to Work and Right to Rent schemes.
Pricing is unpublished. The only real rate card in the public record is a 2022 UK procurement filing, now four years stale.
Financial and scale disclosure is minimal, as you would expect from a private equity-held company, so customer counts and revenue cannot be verified.
Pricing
Quote-only. A 2022 UK G-Cloud filing published per-transaction bands from roughly 30 cents for document verification to 2.50 dollars for full ID verification, useful as an order of magnitude only. Model it with our TCO calculator.
Best for, and who should look elsewhere
Choose Jumio for large regulated deployments needing the broadest document coverage and early digital ID acceptance. Choose Sumsub for published pricing and integrated AML, Entrust IDV for European certification, or Yoti for UK-certified age assurance. See Jumio vs Onfido.
Bottom line
The broadest document coverage in the category with credible current liveness testing, weakened by no NIST participation, no UK certification and no published pricing.
Jumio: frequently asked questions
- How much does Jumio cost?
- Jumio publishes no current pricing. There are no public tiers, no free tier and no published minimum commitment; everything goes through sales. One genuinely published rate card does exist, in a UK G-Cloud procurement filing dated May 2022, listing per-transaction bands from high to low volume: ID verification 2.50 down to 1.00 dollars, document verification 75 down to 30 cents, Jumio GO 2.25 down to 90 cents, authentication 1.50 down to 60 cents, screening 1.75 down to 1.50 dollars, and transaction monitoring 30.00 down to 1.00 dollars, with enhanced features adding a flat 15 cents per transaction. That document is four years old and was a public-sector submission, so treat it as an order-of-magnitude indication rather than current pricing. Per-verification figures circulating elsewhere come from competitor blogs and aggregators and should be ignored.
- How much document coverage does Jumio have?
- More than 5,000 ID subtypes across 200 or more countries and territories, with over a billion transactions processed cumulatively. In June 2026 Jumio added digital ID acceptance across 60 or more countries through a single integration, including eIDAS-compliant national eIDs in nearly 20 EU countries, and reported more than a million Brazilian CNH Digital verifications since launching that acceptance in early 2025. Coverage breadth is Jumio's strongest single argument.
- Is Jumio's accuracy independently tested?
- Partially, and the gap matters. Jumio Liveness holds ISO/IEC 30107-3 Level 2 conformance tested by iBeta, an NVLAP-accredited lab, announced 21 October 2025, which is recent and credible. However the press release publishes no APCER, BPCER or attack-species counts, so there are no numbers to compare. More significantly, we found no Jumio submission to any NIST face evaluation, neither FRTE for recognition nor FATE for age estimation or presentation attack detection. Competitors including Entrust IDV and Yoti do submit and have published rankings. Jumio's independent-testing story is iBeta PAD only.
- Is Jumio certified under the UK digital identity trust framework?
- No. We checked the UK statutory Digital Verification Services register, which listed 47 providers as of 18 September 2026, and Jumio does not appear. Several secondary sources claim Jumio holds UK DIATF certification; based on the register, those claims are wrong. Yoti and Entrust IDV, formerly Onfido, are both on the register. If you need a certified provider for UK Right to Work or Right to Rent checks, this is disqualifying, so verify against the register yourself rather than relying on vendor summaries.
- What compliance does Jumio hold?
- SOC 2 Type 2 for the platform as a whole, achieved in 2022, with SOC 2 Type 2 for Jumio Transaction Monitoring held since 2020. ISO/IEC 27001:2013 and PCI DSS are also stated. No NIST IAL2 conformance assertion was found on any primary source, and as noted above there is no UK trust framework certification.
- Does Jumio have security vulnerabilities?
- One historical CVE exists. CVE-2015-2000, published in March 2018, covers the Jumio Android SDK before version 1.5.0, where a finalize method in a serializable class passed an attacker-controlled pointer to a native function, potentially allowing arbitrary code execution. It carries a CVSS v3.0 score of 9.8 critical. It is the only CVE in the National Vulnerability Database matching Jumio, it affects an SDK version now a decade old, and it does not appear in the CISA KEV catalog. No breach disclosure was found.
- Who owns Jumio?
- Private equity. Centana Growth Partners acquired Jumio out of Chapter 11 in 2016 through a competitive auction approved by the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware, following accounting fraud by the company's former chief executive. Great Hill Partners then invested 150 million dollars in 2021, with board representation alongside Centana and Millennium Technology Value Partners. That ownership structure remains in place as of 2026 with no change found. Revenue, valuation, employee count and customer count are not disclosed.
- What are the best Jumio alternatives?
- Sumsub for published pricing, a dated 2025 iBeta Level 2 result and broader AML and Travel Rule coverage. Entrust IDV, formerly Onfido, for European regulatory certification and NIST FRTE participation. Persona for configurable workflows. Yoti for age assurance and UK trust framework certification. Stripe Identity for simple document and selfie checks at a published price.
