Overview
Plaid Identity Verification offers KYC and identity verification alongside Plaid's financial data network, letting fintech teams verify users in the same flow they already use to connect bank accounts. It is a natural add-on for the large base of companies already integrated with Plaid. See all identity verification vendors for alternatives.
What it is good at
Developer experience and integration are the strengths: the same clean APIs and SDKs fintech teams already know, plus the ability to combine document, selfie, and data-driven checks with Plaid's account and identity signals. For an existing Plaid customer, adding verification is low friction and consolidates vendors. For teams already passing users through Plaid to link accounts, layering verification into the same session reduces drop-off and avoids a second vendor integration, which is a meaningful operational saving.
Where it falls short
As a newer IDV entrant, document and global coverage are less deep than dedicated verification specialists, and the value is concentrated in financial use cases. Teams outside fintech, or those needing broad international document support, will find purpose-built IDV vendors stronger. It also inherits Plaid's product priorities, which center on financial connectivity, so identity verification gets less dedicated investment than it does at vendors whose entire business is IDV.
Pricing
Usage-based, typically per-verification. Model your real volume with the TCO calculator.
Best for, and who should look elsewhere
Choose Plaid Identity Verification when you already use Plaid and want verification in the same flow. For deeper global document coverage consider Onfido or Veriff; for US business onboarding pair it with Middesk.
Bottom line
A convenient, developer-friendly verification add-on for fintech teams already on Plaid.
